HIGHLIGHTS

DOI Referencing

As a scientific service of the International Association of Geodesy (IAG), the BGI aims to ensure the data inventory and the long term availability of the gravity measurements acquired at the Earth’s surface and to contribute to the Global Geodetic Observing System (GGOS).
The data, products or software available at BGI are primarly intented to support scientific and academic research activities. National agencies and scientists whishing to contribute to the archiving of their gravity observations and to the updating the global knowledge of the Earth’s gravity field are invited to contact BGI. Datasets & products archived at BGI benefit from DOI referencing.

Realization of the ITGRS/ITGRF

The International Terrestrial Gravity Reference System and Frame (ITGRF/ITGRF) aims to provide a long-term global gravimetric reference based on absolute and traceable gravimetric measurements such as those provided by state-of-the-art absolute gravimeters (angle cube or cold atoms). This initiative, launched in 2015, is being led by the IAG’s joint working group JWG 2.1.1, with support from the AIG services BGI, IGETS and IGFS. The ITGRS/ITGRF aims to replace of the obsolete International Gravity Standardization Net 1971 (IGSN71) developped in the 70’s.
